Attendance, absence and medical

Attendance

Children are always disadvantaged when holidays are taken during school time.

From the 1st September 2013, new legislation came into force in respect of attendance at school.  The new regulations state that Head Teachers are only allowed to authorise absence in exceptional circumstances.   If you require further information on this please contact school.  Information on the changes to regulations is also available here - https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/parental-responsibility-measures-for-behaviour-and-attendance

Research by Charlie Taylor, undertaken on behalf of the Department of Education, has shown that children who miss significant amounts of their education during primary school years go on to have higher levels of truancy during secondary school.  A parent's attitude towards attendance is important it affects your child's attitude to attendance which impacts on their subsequent results.  The Governors have worked together with the Chenderit Cluster of schools to develop a common policy on Attendance - all of the schools in our area follow this policy.

Absence

If your child is unable to attend school, please telephone us before 9.15am on the first day of absence. The answering machine is always on.  An explanatory note should be given to the class teacher on return or by the third day of absence.

Registers will be called each day at 9.00am and at 1.20pm. If a pupil arrives after the registration period they be registered 'late' for that session.

If a child has diarrhoea and sickness, he/she should not return to school until free of symptoms for a minimum of 48 hours.

Medicines

When children join us, parents are asked to complete an 'information sheet', giving a daytime contact number to be updated as necessary. These details will be useful if your child becomes unwell or has an accident during the school day.  Members of staff are trained to administer first aid if required.

It is not the school policy to administer medication to children  during the school day. Long term arrangements can be made in extreme circumstances if supported by a doctor’s note.

Medicines are administered in line with the LEA directives only.
