Welcome to Key Stage 2
Respect, Believe, Succeed
Here at Boddington, happiness, confidence and excellent personal achievement are our priorities. We know that our nurturing environment gives every single pupil the confidence to strive for the best, that our creative curriculum inspires learning and adventure and that our small classes ensure academic success. From your child’s very first day with us to the day they leave, they will be on a journey of discovery, exploration and enquiry; a journey which equips them with the skills and knowledge essential for living in the 21st Century. Boddington develops happy, confident and well-rounded children, giving them the best possible start for life. About our Golden Eagles Class![]() Boddington is a place to discover, share and explore; a place to escape into adventures, a place for surprise and above all, a place where children love to learn. Unique talents are nurtured through our varied and exciting curriculum, whilst our stimulating and inspiring teaching develops children’s passion and strengths. At Boddington, pupils’ imaginations are ignited from an early stage. Reading For Pleasure We encourage the children to develop a love for reading, though daily storytime, Adult Reading volunteers, appointed Reading Ambassadors, Opportunities for children to 'recommend a read' to each other as well as staff sharing the latest books, which they are enjoying. Look at these reading suggestions for each year group. Why not challenge yourself to see how many you can read this year? Y4 - Reading Suggestions Y5 - Reading Suggestions Y6 - Reading Suggestions If you feel like branching out, away from your favourite authors, have a look at these suggestions! If you like Diary of a Wimpy Kid... If you like Tom Gates... Current learning and topicsBoddington is very much a family school where we aim to cater for the needs of each child in a secure, stimulating environment. The current topic in the Golden Eagle class is ' Love Your Local Area'. Within this topic, we will explore the traditions of Folk music in Northamptonshire, discover the impact of the Romans around this area and look at the different human features within our own geographical area. Our Class text will continue as 'The Explorer' by Katherine Rundell as the children are spell bound by the story and we simply have to know the ending! When reading our class text, we listen to each chapter read twice. The first read is to immerse ourselves in the story, finding a comfy spot in the classroom to relax and enjoy. The second read is to explore unfamiliar vocabulary and discuss how the author has crafted the story. In May, our Y6 children will sit their national Key Stage 2 Tests. Please download the information here which explains more about the tests. ![]()

Photos from our time in Golden EaglesAs a school, we know the importance of learning resilience, confidence and independence. Therefore, in Golden Eagles, we give the children the opportunity to attend a Y4 and a Y6 residential with our federated partner, Culworth Primary Academy.
Sport is a key part of our Golden Eagles Experience, within and out of the school day. Here, we are supporting our children at the locally organized Bob Moore Football Tournament.
As a school, we teach children about sustainability, the environment and their place within the wider world. We show care for our community, by litter picking in our local area as well as developing our school council to support pupils within the school to make decisions and plan projects for improvement.

We love to celebrate achievement at home and at school. A extra big well done to Bella, who created her own PowerPoint about a recent trip to the Panama Rainforest. Bella shared her learning with the whole school in a recent Celebration Worship and encouraged others to ask questions about her experiences.
Respect, Believe, SucceedOur school vision shines through in all we do. We show respect towards each other in our school community and towards the wider world. We believe in ourselves and nurture our own self esteem and resilience. We enable ourselves and others to succeed through perseverance and collaboration.
Whenever possible, we want to explore experiences for the children beyond the classroom walls. See below for photos of our recent trip to the Living Rainforest. Termly Learning JourneyPlease see below:

Connect with an AuthorAfter our zoom visit with new author, Helen Haraldsen last term, we are keen to keep in touch and find out what she's been up to. Let's find out as she has a competition for you!
Competitions, challenges and free giftsI do love a competition. I've set up a number of competitions in the past as I love to get my readers involved with creative tasks linked to my books. There've been writing, illustration, logo design and cover star competitions. The final Amber's Pony Tales cover star competition has just finished. I'm really pleased that the winner has been chosen: Bert, AKA Jetset Lad, a 7 year old thoroughbred, so I now know whose face will be on the cover of the last book in the series. But as well as this, I'm sad that it's the last cover star competition as they've been a big highlight of the series. So, of course, that means I need to launch a new competition! If you'd like to see the winner of the cover star competition and find out about the new Daley's Dog Tales competition, head over to my website here. That's right, it's an illustration competition for children aged 12 and under, inspired by the fact that the final illustrations for the third book are being produced as we speak! There's a brilliant money-can't-buy prize for the winner and it's running until 31st December. More details and the entry form are available on my website (see link above) In other news, I have a brand new freebie for you. As I specialise in writing books about animals, in which my own pets star, I've produced a free guide to help writers plan their own story featuring their pet! It can actually be used to plan a story with any kind of character, as the tips work for any type of story. The guide would be great for
Linked to this, I'm going to be running a free writing challenge via Facebook during the first week of November, Monday to Thursday. It's for the audience mentioned above on the same topic: how to plan a fantastic story featuring your own pet. It will be a step-by-step guide, covering the prompts on the freebie in more detail. I've been trying to think of a name for the challenge and have the following titles. I'd love to know which one you like best!
As it's being delivered through a Facebook group, participants will need a FB profile and children under the age of 13 who want to get involved will need a parent with them (and will need to access it through the parental profile). So, that's all my news for this week. I hope there's something there among the competition, challenge and freebie that's of interest to you! Best wishes Helen Stay up to date with our latest newsWe are making you aware that we use social media as part of the school's public duty to evidence pupil's educational development and attainment. We also aim to provide aspects of the schools culture and values particularly for existing and prospective pupils and for the whole school community.

Chapter 4 - The Explorer
The Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) is a statutory key stage two assessment, which tests year 4 pupils' knowledge of the multiplication tables within 12 × 12.The MTC is in the format of an online test with 25 questions with children being given six seconds to answer each of the questions within the time limit. Visit this website to try a simulation of the MTC In order to support our Y4s to succeed with this assessment, here are some useful website links, to use to practise times tables. TTRockstars: https://ttrockstars.com/ TopMarks: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/7-11-years/times-tables Mental Maths Train : https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/mental-maths-train Oxford Owl As a school, we now have access to Oxford Owl, a website with free access to virtual books, matching the reading book bands, which we use in school. You can use this website and our school login to access different virtual books at the correct level for your child. This is an optional addition to the reading books that go home with the children in their book bags. The class log in details (pink log in box at the top right of the screen) are: Class name: Kingfisher p/w Boddington This will be appropriate for children who are beginning to read and those more confident, who are not yet ‘free readers’, (predominantly EYFS/ Key Stage 1), however it is available for all children using this single classname, for ease. |
