Welcome to Kingfisher Class

Respect, Believe, Succeed

Here at Boddington, happiness, confidence and excellent personal achievement are our priorities. We know that our nurturing environment gives every single pupil the confidence to strive for the best, that our creative curriculum inspires learning and adventure and that our small classes ensure academic success.
From your child’s very first day with us to the day they leave, they will be on a journey of discovery, exploration and enquiry; a journey which equips them with the skills and knowledge essential for living in the 21st Century.

Boddington develops happy, confident and well-rounded children, giving them the best possible start for life.

About our Kingfisher Class

Boddington is a place to discover, share and explore; a place to escape into adventures, a place for surprise and above all, a place where children love to learn.

Unique talents are nurtured through our varied and exciting curriculum, whilst our stimulating and inspiring teaching develops children’s passion and strengths. At Boddington, pupils’ imaginations are ignited from an early stage.

Current learning and topics

Forest School

We are very fortunate to have our own outdoor area which we are able to access all year round. This enhances the children's experiences and supports their learning in all areas. In addition to this, our PTA and local Village Hall committee enables us to participate in Forest School, this takes place throughout the year. We love our Forest School sessions with Sarah from Forest Bees, recently we have searched for signs of Spring, foraged for pine cones, made natural paints and climbed many trees!

Homework and reading:

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you’ll go.”— Dr. Seuss, “I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!”

At Boddington, we would like to encourage children to read as much as possible. It is our aim for children to develop a love for reading, where they will want to read for their own pleasure. Some children may need further encouragement to read and so we will also be awarding housepoints to encourage all readers.

When you read with an adult, please ask them to sign to say they have listened to you.

Reading Regularly (ideally every day, at least Four times a week)

School reading books are carefully selected for your child.  It is really important for your child to be reading these regularly at home to become more familiar with words thus improving pace and fluency. Being able to talk about and understand stories is also really important, so once the whole book has been read fluently, we ask that your child reads it again at home with an adult who can ask questions and talk about characters and events in the stories. This will ensure your child becomes confident with both sight reading and comprehension. When your child reads their school reading book with you at home, please fill in their reading diary, noting which page you have reached.

All reading books will be changed on a Friday, if your child does not have their previous books in school they will not receive a new book (this is to ensure all books are returned as we have limited quantities).

 Spellings

In line with the National Curriculum, each year group has a specific set of spellings to cover over the year. These will come home at the start of each term in your childs homework book. Spellings are checked in class every Thursday.

 Maths and Reading Apps

All Children in Years 1 to 6 have logins for ‘TTRockstars (Years 2/3)/Numbots (Years 1/2) and ‘Teach your Monster to Read’(R – Year2 children who are still consolidating their phonics knowledge). We ask children use these 4 times a week.

Homework books will need to be handed into your child’s class teacher each Thursday and will be sent home on Fridays.

If you have any issues with being able to access the homework activities, please do contact either Mrs P or your child’s class teacher and we will do our best to support you.
